A pioneer in global value chain research, former Chief Economist and Director of the Economic Research and Statistics Division of the World Trade Organization (WTO), former Director and Chief Economist of the United States International Trade Commission (USITC), and currently the Hurst Chair Professor at American University. Professor Koopman is an authority on international trade policy and global economic governance. Professor Koopman has led the innovation of the WTO's annual World Trade Report, research on global value chains, and the trade monitoring system during the pandemic. Professor Koopman has also been deeply involved in the assessment of China's accession to the WTO and economic dialogues.
